Metcalfe County board keeps tax rate at 51.9 cents, approves financial report and emergency math hire

Administration presented tax-rate context during the superintendent's report, stating a compensating rate of 52.1 cents per $100 and explaining the recommendation to keep the rate at the current 51.9 cents. The tax-rate motion (agenda item 5L) passed unanimously. The meeting record also notes that the rate-setting allows 0.3 cents for exonerations, which the packet shows as producing a potential total of 52.2 cents; the board nonetheless approved the maintenance of the 51.9-cent rate.
The board also approved the August 2024 financial report and warrants, which included multiple large vendor payments and state reimbursements listed in the packet. The superintendent told the board the district had "some good candidates, but none with a math certification," and sought the emergency certification to staff the position ahead of the start of classes.
Other administrative approvals at the meeting included acceptance of the 2024 unaudited AFR and the annual acknowledgement of data security and breach-notification best practices. The board set its next regular meeting for Sept. 17, 2024 and adjourned after completing agenda items.
