Task force hears updates: airport RFP delayed, library data access and county innovation challenge

Staff told the task force the airport RFP remains on hold pending infrastructure fixes, highlighted a free marketing/data pass at Volusia County libraries, and announced the Volusia Innovation Challenge March 27 with a $10,000 first prize at the Ocean Center.
At the end of the Dec. 17 meeting staff offered several brief operational announcements.
Miss Hartman said the airport request for proposals has not yet been released because of outstanding infrastructure issues (notably fire hydrants) that the city wants to resolve before soliciting proposals. "It's not out," she said, explaining staff wanted hydrant and related infrastructure issues addressed before issuing the RFP.
Staff also highlighted county resources: the Volusia County Library system now offers an Acuity Business Pass that provides free access to marketing and demographic data for businesses, and the county economic development team has posted a microsite for business resources.
Finally, Miss Hartman announced the Volusia Innovation Challenge, a countywide entrepreneurship competition set for March 27 at the Ocean Center with a $10,000 first prize and participation from chambers, CareerSource, SCORE and other partners. The task force was told county partners will manage the program this year and the city will promote participation locally.
