Golden Plains board records concerns about boiler chemistry treatment and delayed field lights

Board members heard facilities updates for the Rexford campus on Sept. 9, including a contractor-reported delay to new football field LED lights and operational concerns with the school boiler and hot water piping.

Administrators reported that Ikio LED lighting work on the football field has been delayed after the wrong drivers were ordered and a heat issue was identified during warehouse testing; the district’s schedule of upcoming activities was shared with the vendor and the district hopes installation will be completed by early October. American Boiler contractor 'Odie' was in the district to get the boiler running but raised concerns about installing a chemistry treatment on the boiler; a representative from Chem Treat, Joe, called to discuss concerns and said he would document the conversation in writing. The board noted hard water buildup in hot water pipes on the west side of the middle/high school that has led to varying performance and asked for direction on how to proceed.

Because of the contractor concerns, the board recorded a consensus to investigate whether the district can terminate or renegotiate chemical-treatment contracts with ESP and ChemTreat and requested administration follow up with contract options and documentation.
