Metcalfe County schools report attendance rebound, test-score gains and extracurricular honors

Metcalfe County school leaders reported Feb. 10 that district attendance has rebounded after a recent dip, and they highlighted academic and extracurricular accomplishments across the system.
Superintendent Josh Hurt told trustees last week's attendance had dipped to about 87–88 percent but that district attendance was back near 91 percent on the night of the meeting. Hurt said surrounding districts had closed for one or more days while Metcalfe remained open. He also recognized five teachers who completed Kentucky's Elevate Academy and presented certificates to Amy Devore, Mattie Reed, Kim Compton, Candace Howard and Lauren Morgan.
At Metcalfe County Middle School, Jenny Stotts reported winter i-Ready results showed a 6 percentage-point increase in students scoring above or on grade level in reading compared with fall testing; the school will recognize those students with a popcorn-and-movie celebration. Stotts also summarized Governor's Cup and LCMEA honors-band results and noted that FAFSA Fiesta Night and a discounted ACT for 9th and 10th graders are scheduled to help seniors and underclassmen with college access.
At the elementary level, Michael Gill summarized Governor's Cup placings and Quick Recall results; district instruction staff said leaders are refining MTSS and RTI supports and piloting a Portrait of a Hornet presentation-of-learning defense at the high school.
Athletics highlights included MCHS Winter Sports Senior Night and multiple individual honors in girls' and boys' middle-school all-star teams. Facilities staff reported that new turf is in place and bleacher delivery has occurred, with installation to follow.
Board members and administrators framed the reports as routine updates about student supports, program accomplishments and ongoing facility work.
