International Falls board hears preschool, athletics and a new after-school childcare plan; board to post staff positions

Missus Tate summarized high-school scheduling work and said the elementary curriculum team selected CKLA for K—6 English language arts; she cited an approximate elementary K—6 curriculum cost of $21,000 per year as the district plans a multi-year adoption cycle.
An athletics staff member reviewed spring-sports results and schedules, noting softball finished 12—9, baseball 8—17, boys golf won the Iron Range Conference title and fall practice is set to start Aug. 17 with first varsity games Aug. 27.
A district program coordinator presented the "Kids Care" school-aged care program designed to serve kindergarten through fifth grade at West End after school (2:50 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.). The coordinator said the registration portal and program handbook are ready, job descriptions for a program lead and assistant will be posted (agenda includes a request to approve posting), the initial enrollment cap will be 30 and pricing is $13 per day under a 5-day schedule or $15 for single days. The coordinator said the district received a foundation grant to help fund start-up materials and intends to open registrations in early fall with a tentative September 1 or October 1 launch depending on hiring.
Board members asked about schedule flexibility and registration logistics; the coordinator said families can sign up for specific days and that the program handbook sets attendance expectations and scheduling options.
The administration asked board members to review the program materials and said the district will return in August to finalize handbook adoption and job postings.
