Glide School District 12 board adopts revised policies, approves calendar change and affirms state standards compliance

At a regular meeting, the Glide School District 12 board unanimously adopted revised district policies and approved a calendar revision for the 2023-24 year, while Superintendent Freeman presented the district's mandatory Division 22 attestation.
"I am attesting to you that Glide School District meets the standards of division 22," Superintendent Freeman said during his presentation, noting the district will post the attestation on its website for the state review in November. Freeman said the review covered items such as instructional hours and physical education minutes and that his team's review found the district in compliance.
On policy, a board member moved to adopt updated policies identified in the packet as GIJ, K and L. Board members discussed the scope of the district's policy manual and the plan for ongoing maintenance: Freeman said the district will receive quarterly updates from the Oregon School Boards Association and bring required changes forward as needed. After discussion, the board voted to adopt the revised policies. Board members said the policies will be posted on the district website for public access.
The board also approved a calendar revision that moves high school and middle school conferences to Feb. 6-7. Superintendent Freeman said the change would make Feb. 5 a district half-day and May 14 a half-day and estimated the district would remain ahead of required instructional time, reporting the district would still exceed the 990-hour requirement by about 26 hours after the change. "That gives time to make those critical adjustments to support kids," Freeman said, explaining the rationale for shifting secondary conferences earlier in the school year.
Each of the formal motions on the consent agenda, policies and the calendar carried by unanimous voice vote; the board did not record member-level tallies in the public record during the meeting. The superintendent said notifications to families about the calendar change would be sent the following day.
The meeting packet and the revised policies will be available on the district website, officials said. The Division 22 attestation will also be posted for the state's November review.
