Warren Township Volunteer Fire Department leaders used their June 3 meeting to press members to meet training and medical requirements, and to finalize deadlines intended to keep apparatus staffed and compliant.
Derek Reedman, who led the drills and training update, said he had produced a final list of members not compliant with bloodborne-pathogens (BBP) training and warned that those members' gear "should be pulled." He urged companies to remind members to use the bottle fill station logs and said drivers must complete the online CEVO training by June 26; the chief asked for a list of drivers with names and email addresses.
Reedman also said certificates must be entered correctly in department records and that members must complete their physical exams by July 1; a physical-exam form is available on the department website. Driver requalification records must be entered into Red Alert by July 1. He reminded members that they have one chance to pass the Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) challenge exam and that failing it requires completing the 40-hour class again. Upcoming Swift Water certification and CPR training were also noted.
The department set a June 24 drill at Community/Station 3 at 7 p.m. and asked members to contact Reedman for CPR certification needs. The training push and deadlines aim to reduce operational risk by ensuring drivers are qualified and personnel meet medical and certification requirements.
