Students report FFA wins, homecoming and leadership trips at Glide SD 12 meeting

High school senior and student representative Noah Eichenbusch told the board about recent student successes, including Addison Zurbach's champion market lamb and champion FFA breeding ewe at the Oregon State Fair and several ribbons earned at the Douglas County Fair. Noah said the FFA officer team attended a 2024 leadership camp and students will travel to the National FFA Convention to attend workshops.
Noah announced homecoming week will run Oct. 7'12 with volleyball and powder-puff events; the high school football team's first home varsity game is Sept. 27 against Bonanza. He said athletics participation is strong with roughly 180 athletes across middle and high school teams, and that cross-country teams are growing with home meets scheduled at Whistler's Park and a memorial run on Oct. 2.
Noah also described a district project coordinated by the fire science program and Wolf Creek Job Corps, featuring an educational presentation from Jesse Jackson of the Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua on traditional burning to propagate camas bulbs; the plan includes a spring harvest with 5th graders. He closed by noting the outdoor club will summit Mount Bailey on Sept. 28.
Chair Atterbeg asked principal and staff to allow board members to tour classrooms to see these programs in practice; Superintendent Freeman and board members expressed appreciation for student leadership and community involvement.
