Glide SD 12 seeks grants to replace stadium lighting; superintendent cites safety and energy savings

Superintendent Freeman announced the district plans to replace obsolete stadium and track lighting and has secured substantial outside funding to limit the local cost.
"The overall cost to replace our lights was $71,000," Freeman said, adding that the district had secured $48,500 through Senate Bill 1149 and had submitted an application for an Energy Trust incentive of $16,550. "If we get both, then that would be around $6,300 out of the district to have incredible lights for our football track facility," he said. He cautioned the Energy Trust award was still pending; if that incentive does not come through the district's share would be closer to $23,000.
Freeman said the upgrades target safety and more effective supervision around bleachers, concession and parking areas, not a conversion of the baseball/softball fields for night games. "We are gonna shine lights that direction, not to the extent that you could run a night game," he said, describing supplemental lighting for supervision. The superintendent also noted long-term energy savings under more efficient fixtures.
The district plans to proceed pending the Energy Trust decision and will move forward with installation to increase safety and reduce future maintenance challenges for obsolete fixtures.
