Board approves Douglas ESD local service plan; asks for vacancy and service details

The Glide School District board approved the Douglas Education Service District's local service plan after the superintendent described the ESD's role supporting the county’s 13 school districts and asked for the board's continued partnership.
Board members asked for a clearer breakdown of which ESD services Glide SD 12 uses, vacancy numbers for positions such as behavioral health specialists, and the ESD's plan for addressing vacancies and service levels. One board member said she wanted a clearer accounting of costs and what the district receives for those costs.
The superintendent and others said the ESD is starting Medicaid billing efforts. The superintendent described that revenue from Medicaid billing would effectively reduce the district's costs for services provided through the ESD rather than appear as direct funding to the Glide district: "the plan is that the money that is generated from the Glide School District, it would take off of the funds that we pay for those services. So we would see an indirect benefit of that," he said.
After discussion, the board approved the ESD local service plan and directed staff to follow up with the requested breakdowns and vacancy information for future meetings.
