The Lucas Local School District Board of Education approved a series of fiscal, personnel and contract actions at its June 16 regular meeting in the Lucas Heritage Middle School library.
On significant fiscal matters, the board approved a $1,000,000 transfer from the General Fund (001) to the Capital Projects Fund (070-9025) (motion by Mr. Maglott, seconded by Mr. Foss). The board also approved Temporary Appropriations for FY2027 at the fund level. To close fiscal year 2026, the board authorized a one-time transfer of up to $20,000 from the General Fund to the Athletic Fund (300-9500) and recorded that $15,564.25 was transferred. The board likewise authorized up to $100,000 to the Food Service Fund, with $63,088.21 recorded as transferred. Activity Fund budgets for numerous extracurricular accounts were approved for July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027.
The board approved standard financial housekeeping measures, including change funds and petty cash allocations; authorization to use Blanket and Super Blanket purchase orders not to exceed $175,000 per order for fiscal year 2027; and renewal of property, vehicle, liability and cyber insurance through Ohio School Plan.
On personnel and program actions, the board accepted the resignation of Ronald Saunders (Intervention Specialist), approved employment of Jason Lambert (custodian) pending credentialing, and approved numerous supplemental contracts and pupil-activity program contracts for the 2026–27 school year. The board moved Corbin Toms’ hiring into a separate action item and later approved him as Head Boys Basketball with a recorded vote showing Mrs. Cuthbertson Yes, Mr. Foss Yes, Mr. Maglott Abstain, Mr. Strassell Yes, and Mr. Steward No.
Contracts and agreements approved or authorized included a Title IX Services Agreement with Mid-Ohio ESC (Aug. 1, 2026–July 31, 2027), participation in the Career Coach Program with Pioneer Career and Technology Center, a 60-month copy service lease with Toshiba Financial Services, a digital communications contract with Town Money Saver Plus (July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027), and authorization for the Superintendent and Treasurer to negotiate and approve a food service management contract with The Nutrition Group for 2026–27. The board also accepted a $250 donation from the Fraternal Order of the Police for Safety Town.
Routine student- and staff-related items passed on unanimous votes, including adoption of revised handbooks, approval of curriculum materials (KnowAtom Science for grades 2–5 and Ohio Code Scholar for a high-school coding class), adoption of several board policies (including an Artificial Intelligence policy and policies on administering medicines and truancy), the Online Learning Plan for 2026–27, and naming building principals to the Local Professional Development Committee with stipulated payment.
The board briefly entered executive session at 7:17 p.m. to discuss the employment of a public employee and negotiations and resumed regular session at 7:39 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 8:29 p.m.
The minutes include statutory certification language referencing Section 5705.412 of the Revised Code that the board has sufficient funds to meet obligations for the fiscal year; the record contains minor typographical errors in signature lines.
