GP Flex reports enrollment surge and targeted-school designation as staff highlight student success story

District staff summarized a GP Flex update for the board, combining enrollment data, accountability status and examples of student success.
The presenter (GP Flex staff) said GP Flex enrolled roughly 202 students and reported a four-year graduation rate above the state average for some cohorts. The program also received a targeted designation from the Oregon Department of Education because state-assessment participation fell well below the 95 percent participation threshold; staff estimated about 40 percent of families opted out of the assessment last year and discussed strategies to increase participation, including appointment scheduling, incentives and linking honors diploma eligibility to assessment participation.
The presenter described program adjustments to improve student outcomes: reducing the number of concurrent classes students take, adding graders to speed feedback in Edgenuity, strengthening onboarding with a Canvas course for FlexWay, and requiring campus attendance for some students who are not progressing remotely.
Julia Head, a parent of a GP Flex senior, described her daughter Elenas progress after transferring to Flex and thanked staff for engagement and support.
Board members probed how the district will measure improvement and asked for clarity about how ODE measures schools and how GP Flex will exit targeted status; staff said a two-year window for improvement is likely and that the district will submit an ODE improvement plan.
