Students from Glide SD 12 share Ron Clark Academy lessons, FFA convention experiences and upcoming theater production

Thatcher Johnson and other student leaders described a trip to the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta and explained how the school’s house system fosters community, respect and character-building exercises they want to replicate locally.
"When we entered, I was so amazed... the students in Mr. Clark were hanging out with people and were very respectful... it made me feel a part of something," student Thatcher Johnson said. Several students described activities, competitions and the ways RCA models behavior and leadership practices.
Tyler Carlock Preston reported the Glide FFA chapter attended the 97th National FFA Convention and Expo, visited Fair Oaks Farm and Wheatland Farm, and thanked advisors and alumni who supported the trip.
Kathleen Carson Cole, director of theater, announced the district play (a two-act comedy) opening in December at the classic live stage in the old middle school and said board members and guests would receive complimentary tickets. Students and staff also presented SB awards across grade levels; winners were named and invited to collect shirts before break.
The presentations emphasized student leadership, extracurricular learning and community support; board members repeatedly thanked students, staff and volunteers for their efforts.
