Montgomery County students earn All-State spots; MCHS Rocket League takes state runner-up

At its Dec. 16 meeting, the Montgomery County Board of Education recognized a string of student accomplishments from music, academics and esports.
Superintendent Matthew D. Thompson congratulated five students selected to the 2026 Kentucky All-State Choir: Karma Jett, Aubrie Douglas, Liam Bourne, Daniel McCarty and Fender Crawford. He also announced that 23 middle school students and 14 high school students earned spots in the 2026 KMEA All-District Bands, and that freshman violinist Anabelle Lygrisse was selected to the All-State orchestra and had also qualified for the All-State Junior High Choir but chose orchestra participation.
The board also celebrated the Montgomery County High School Rocket League team's runner-up finish in the Fall 2025 Esports State Championships, presented by UK HealthCare. Coach David Haney and team members Bryan Johnson, Will Korossy, Aaron Nash and Loxley Strode were named during the recognitions portion of the meeting.
Superintendent Thompson opened the verbal report by thanking district staff who presented at the recent Exceptional Child Conference and noted an award received by Lt. Col. Stepanchuk from the Kentucky Colonels.
The recognitions were presented before the board moved on to routine consent and action items.
