Boyertown Area SD board accepts James H. Brophy’s resignation 5–1; special meeting set to fill Region 2 seat

The Boyertown Area SD Board of School Directors voted to accept the resignation of James H. Brophy, effective July 8, 2026, during its regular meeting. Administration had recommended acceptance.

Trustee Miss Diamond explained her decision to vote no, characterizing recent board interactions as dysfunctional and saying the board has not held open, honest conversations in the boardroom. “In my 12 plus years in service on this board, I must say that these last 3 plus years have been the worst I have seen of a dysfunctioning board,” Diamond said, adding that she will not resign.

After discussion the board conducted a roll-call vote. The resignation was accepted on a 5–1 vote; Miss Nyman voted no. The administration did not identify a motion sponsor on the record; the board clerk called names during the roll call and recorded the tally.

Administration announced a process to fill the Region 2 vacancy. The board will advertise the opening and post an application and a financial-ethics form. The board scheduled a special meeting for Aug. 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the education center to interview applicants; the application window will run for one week after the advertisement posts. Regular board meetings will resume Aug. 11 (committee of the whole) and Aug. 25 (legislative meeting).

No litigation or appeal regarding the resignation was raised during the meeting. The acceptance of the resignation and the vacancy timeline were the most recent formal actions recorded before adjournment.
