Matt (S9), the county public works director, told the council that from Jan. 1 to July 15 his department logged 167 work orders, closed 133 and left 34 open, for a completion rate of about 79.6% and a backlog of roughly 20.4%.
S9 explained priorities drive work scheduling: roadside ditching and entrance pipe culvert replacements account for a substantial share of outstanding work, with about 1,400 miles of roadside ditching countywide. "This is from January 1 to July 15. So we took in 167 work orders. We closed out 133, left opens 34, completion rate with almost 80%. That's in 6 months," S9 said.
Councilmembers praised the approach. S4 commended the data-driven method and asked for follow-up on mosquito surveys and localized flooding. S9 and staff said they will continue reporting director-level updates in future meetings as part of a new transparency feature.
Next steps: staff will provide periodic director updates and pursue operational improvements and equipment needs identified in the presentation.
