Ellsworth — The Ellsworth City Council on Sept. 9 approved a sales order with Hydrostock LLC for six in-place valve inserts and parts at an amount not to exceed $27,240, a purchase staff said will reduce repair time and outside-contractor costs.
City staff explained that the valve-insertion equipment allows technicians to insert valves without shutting service, cutting repair time significantly and avoiding outside contractor charges (staff estimated outside insertion at roughly $10,000 per valve). The purchase was described as part of a broader effort to get ahead of recurring water and sewer failures after a recent seal failure required emergency response.
The motion was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. Staff said the order covers six valves and associated parts and that training for the equipment has been scheduled for October so all water/sewer technicians can use it.
Council discussion emphasized cost-savings, faster repairs and the benefit of reducing raw service interruptions for residents. A staff speaker said funding will come from water/sewer project funds or project contingencies rather than the general fund.
Next steps: Staff will take delivery, complete training and schedule valve-insertion operations as needed; the purchase order will be executed within the approved not-to-exceed amount.
