The Ellsworth City Council formally introduced Alan Dingell as the city’s interim administrator on Jan. 13, and councilors used the meeting to review their response to a recent snowstorm that prompted emergency sheltering.
Mayor (chair) introduced Dingell, noting his more than three decades in municipal management. Dingell summarized his recent positions and said he and his family are relocating to the area and that he will serve in the interim ‘‘as long as we need to be.’’
Fire and police officials reported that the storm generated high demand: city crews and volunteers set up an emergency shelter that housed roughly 20 people each night for two nights and provided food, blankets and other assistance. Fire/EMS leaders said the community response—neighbors bringing supplies and agencies coordinating with dispatch, the sheriff’s office and highway patrol—kept operations running smoothly.
Council members thanked city staff, the police and fire departments, and volunteers for the response. Staff said they will meet with the county’s Local Emergency Planning Committee and the city’s emergency-preparedness director to clarify roles and protocols so the city is better prepared for future incidents.
Next steps include staff follow-ups on emergency plans and insurance renewals; council members said they expect additional briefings after those meetings.
