Board of Adjustment approves variance for Cedar Ridge Farm addition

County planning staff told the board the addition would encroach approximately 5 feet into the north setback, leaving about 20 feet from the property line. "We haven't received any phone calls or any letters of protest in regards to his request," an Oklahoma County staff member said, and staff confirmed certified notice was mailed to neighbors.
Applicant Brian Walt told the board his closest neighbor provided a letter saying they were okay with the project and asked that the letter be entered into the record. "He's okay with it, if that helps," Walt said, adding the plan is a "mother-in-law plan for my mom."
Board members and staff discussed the home's design and homeowners association review. The applicant said the HOA had approved an earlier plan; county staff noted county regulations can treat a covered connection between structures as an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) and that the county has seen an increase in such requests. Staff also said Walt had submitted required documentation but that the building permit had not yet been approved.
A board member moved to approve the variance and a second was recorded. In the roll-call vote, the board recorded "Aye" from Miss Cote and "Aye" from Mr. Robinson, and the motion carried.
