Bernalillo council approves $1.1 million in vouchers; resident raises Planning & Zoning procedural complaint

The Bernalillo Governing Body approved the accounts payable voucher list for June 22, 2026, totaling $1,096,726.94 and received a financial update and several community announcements during its June 22 meeting.
Finance Director Terri Gray presented the town’s financial update and referenced an attached financial report showing year-to-date General Fund and Enterprise fund revenues and expenditures, including gross receipts tax (GRT) trends. The accounts payable list was approved on a roll-call vote.
In public comment, Marco A. Banales, representing the Sandia Shadows Dog Show Cluster, requested permission to allow RVs at Loretto Park for the dog show planned Oct. 31–Nov. 1; Christina Jones, community development director, said she would follow up to set a meeting. Resident Regina Hanck said she attended Planning & Zoning meetings about the Venada Plaza Apartments and alleged procedural missteps that forced a special meeting: she said signatures from about 200 nearby residents opposing the project were ignored and that the chair cut off a procedural motion, producing what she called a "forced procedural error."
Public Works Director Troy Martinez updated the council on the Calle del Norte water-line relocation project: crews located an additional water line crossing private property and found that past infrastructure placement left utilities (water, gas and CenturyLink telephone and fiber) near property lines rather than in road easements. "We noticed that right up against those same property lines is where the CenturyLink telephone and fiber lines are, and the gas line," Martinez said; staff will get a contractor estimate to relocate the line closer to the road and will notify affected residents before work proceeds.
Other announcements included a "Cops in the Park" event July 10 (Lieutenant Dominguez), Bernalillo Public Schools’ "Fun in the Park" July 6 where the fire truck will appear (Substitute Fire Chief Picchione), the farmers market and upcoming July 4 Mayor’s event (Christina Jones), and a request from Councilor Torres-Quintana to have staff evaluate moving summer pickleball activities to the newly repaired pavilion to reduce Recreation Center burden.
