Residents press for blight help; commissioners highlight senior center repairs and summer events

Andrea Hernandez of 185 Euclid described financial hardship and pleaded for the commission's presence at her upcoming blight court appearance and assistance finding materials for home repairs. "I don't have the funds... I will be here Wednesday, and I hope to see each and every one of you there," Hernandez said during remarks in the first public participation period. She told commissioners she had applied for Habitat and weatherization programs but remained behind on property taxes and asked for material help rather than fines.
Jean Dixon of 114 Middle Street used the second public comment period to thank the commission for approving repairs at 300 North Groesbeck, the senior center, and described positive experiences with programming there. "Seniors, we need it... It's a beautiful building," Dixon said, thanking staff and commissioners for supporting the facility.
In response during staff reports and commissioner comments, staff confirmed that most senior activities at 300 North Groesbeck have been temporarily suspended until heating/cooling work is completed and that notices and contractor activity for Wellington Crescent rehabilitation were underway. Staff also announced early voting for the Aug. 4 primary will be available at Mount Clemens City Hall beginning July 25 and listed community events including several Uptown Friday night concerts and other summer programming.
Commissioners welcomed new staff members Shea Gardner (parks and recreation) and Bill Diamond (director, Department of Streets) and encouraged public engagement with local government. The meeting adjourned after commissioners' comments.
