Residents urge help for blighted homes; seniors praise center

Andrea Hernandez, who gave her address, described longstanding housing struggles and asked commissioners to attend her Blight Court hearing that week. She said she had applied for Habitat and weatherization programs but was denied from the weatherization program because of outstanding taxes. "If I could get the materials, I will put the siding on myself," Hernandez said, later adding she felt a blight-staff interaction was "a little bit manipulative." She asked the commission for help finding resources.
Jean Dixon, 114 Bridal Street, thanked the commission for repairs to the senior center at 300 North Groesbeck and praised recent events, including an ice cream social that drew residents and used funds authorized by the commission. "Seniors, we need it," Dixon said, expressing appreciation that the city continues to invest in the facility.
Shipman provided administrative responses elsewhere in the meeting, including confirmation that senior activities are suspended at the building until HVAC and related work are completed and that notices were being delivered about planned maintenance.
