The Mount Clemens City Commission approved a resolution designating William "Bill" Diamond, the city's newly appointed director of public services, as the city's Act 51 street administrator, the official responsible for coordinating street improvements and serving as the city's representative in transactions with the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Staff noted that Section 13 of Act 51 of the Public Acts of 1951 requires every city receiving Act 51 transportation funding to designate a single street administrator to oversee transportation activities and to maintain eligibility for state funding. The city's prior Act 51 street administrator, Jeff Wood, recently retired; the new designation ensures continuity in administration and compliance with Act 51 requirements. Staff warned that failure to designate an administrator could result in Act 51 funds being withheld.
Commissioners voted in favor of adopting the resolution to designate Diamond. The resolution tasks the director with coordinating street improvements, maintenance, traffic operations, street lighting and other related transportation activities and names him as the city's official representative in dealings with the Michigan Department of Transportation.
