Bryan ISD unveils schematic designs for Bryan Collegiate High School, new Merrill Green Fieldhouse and modular fieldhouses

District and PBK architects returned to the board with schematic‑design progress for bond‑funded projects, including a new Bryan Collegiate High School and the Merrill Green Fieldhouse.

PBK senior principal Manny Torres said the Bryan Collegiate work is in schematic design after a three‑day design charrette with teachers, students and staff. The team presented three site options and two building options that prioritize safety (an internal courtyard), natural light in classrooms and parent drop‑off/stacking. Torres described a tentative schedule that keeps schematic design through July and into August, with bidding planned in 2027 and a building move‑in targeted for fall 2029.

For the Merrill Green Fieldhouse, PBK Sports and district staff described a roughly 44,000‑square‑foot multipurpose event center with a second‑level event concourse, secure student and event entries, multiple locker rooms and training/rehab spaces. Juan Lopez of PBK Sports and the architects said the design development phase is underway with a goal of issuing construction documents and market release in early 2027 and a construction duration targeted around 16 months for an opening in mid‑2028.

Staff also described stadium improvements, including a proposed video board roughly 41 feet wide by about 30 feet tall; the board noted possible static/video combinations and sponsorship opportunities. To address baseball/softball adjacency and practice logistics, the district proposed modular remote fieldhouses—prebuilt modules set on slabs near the respective fields. One presentation slide cited an allocation of about $3,100,000 for six modular units (two softball, two baseball and two tennis modules) as a cost‑effective and rapid solution.

Board members asked detailed questions about expansion capacity, traffic flow, game‑day logistics, branding of shared spaces, and how the projects will avoid disrupting daily operations. Designers repeatedly emphasized that plans remain drafts and will be refined during design development. The board received the update with further questions and no formal actions; staff will return with additional design‑development materials and refined cost estimates.
