Platte County approves sheriff's office contracts for SROs, equipment maintenance, body-shop services and VMware

The Platte County Commission unanimously approved four agenda items from the sheriff's office covering school resource officers (SROs), equipment maintenance, vehicle body repairs and a multi-year IT subscription.

Captain Jeffrey Shanks presented the annual SRO agreement with the Platte County R-3 School District to provide two school resource officers. He told the commission the county and school district consider continuing the relationship in the county's best interest; the budget impact for the school year is $155,826.22 plus benefits, with the district reimbursing 80% of salary and benefit costs. Commissioners asked which districts currently have SRO coverage; Shanks said coverage includes North Platte, West Platte, Platte County R-3 and Park Hill School District (except the Park Hill South area covered by Riverside PD).

Shanks also asked the commission to approve a one-year maintenance support agreement for the LiveScan fingerprint device used by the detention center, saying the annual maintenance cost is $3,201 and funds are in the current budget.

For vehicle repair services, Shanks presented the annual bid award (solicitation 2026RES051) and said Crash Champions Collision Repair submitted the only qualified bid; he recommended acceptance and noted the vendor provides a lifetime warranty and local service. Commissioners approved the award.

Finally Shanks requested approval of a three-year VMware subscription with SHI to support virtual servers and related infrastructure. The total three-year cost is $126,316, with $42,001 budgeted for FY2026; Shanks said future years' costs will be addressed in budget requests. The commission approved the multi-year agreement 3-0.

All four motions passed by unanimous recorded votes.
