Wyoming leases Halberg Marine space to house fire department during construction

The Wyoming City Council on July 21 approved a lease agreement with Halberg Marine Inc. for about 6,000 square feet at 26581 Fallbrook Avenue to temporarily accommodate the Wyoming Fire Department while construction occurs at the existing fire station.

City Administrator Linwood said staff negotiated the lease to ensure uninterrupted fire operations during construction. "That space will accommodate all of our fire apparatus, equipment, operational functions while work is completed over at the existing fire department," Linwood said. The city expects to operate from the site until about March 2027, though Linwood said the schedule will be "somewhat fluid" depending on construction progress.

Linwood described the lease terms: a July 26 start date, an initial 12-month term (with options thereafter), monthly rent of $3,750 and no security deposit. The lease is structured as a gross lease; Halberg Marine is responsible for property taxes, building insurance, snow removal and water/sewer, while the city would be responsible for utilities such as electricity, gas and communications if used.

Councilmember Yeager asked whether the building could accommodate the department's ladder truck if it were returned during the lease term; staff and the chief said the space likely would not accommodate the ladder and the timing made overlap unlikely. Councilmembers thanked staff and the Halberg family for negotiating a favorable arrangement and approved the lease by voice vote.

What happens next: staff will finalize the lease and begin moving the fire department into the temporary location in late July; the council will be updated as construction and operations progress.
