Port Clinton council adopts codified ordinance updates and budget amendment in unanimous votes

On a motion by Councilman Jerry Tarolli, seconded by Pat Hovis, the council retained the emergency clause for Ordinance 18-26 and then adopted the ordinance to approve replacement pages to the Port Clinton Codified Ordinances. President of Council Lisa Sarty announced the roll-call vote as 5-0 in favor (Tarolli, King, Daft, Hovis and Gillman).
The council also adopted Ordinance 19-26, which the auditor described as a $325,000 increase in appropriations for fiscal year 2026. Auditor Gabe Below told the council $225,000 of that amount is a transfer to the Fire Fund to cover supply and equipment needs through year-end; the remaining $100,000 funds work under an FHWA Active Transportation Infrastructure Investment Program grant and will be reimbursed at 100 percent. Tarolli moved adoption and Hovis seconded; the measure passed by the same 5-0 roll-call tally.
Why it matters: The codified-ordinance replacement keeps the city's legal code current; the appropriation aims to shore up short-term needs in the Fire Fund and to advance a federally funded transportation project without local match.
Council commentary and next steps: The Finance Committee recommended both ordinances after meeting June 15, the auditor said. No amendments were recorded at the meeting. The council did not discuss any additional appropriations related to these measures during the public meeting.
