Union City Borough Council on Aug. 27 unanimously approved several routine municipal measures: awarding a $16,679 contract for a canoe and kayak launch at the American Legion ball field, approving seven Renaissance Grant awards totaling $23,600 for 2024–2025 projects, and removing a borough lien of approximately $2,690 on 121 East High Street that the Erie County Landbank asked be satisfied.
Bids were not required for the canoe/kayak launch because the cost fell below the $23,200 threshold. The borough engineer from The EADS Group reviewed the quotes; Blum Property Services, LLC submitted $18,541.50 and Construction Services of PA submitted $16,679. Councilor Osborn moved and Councilor Kerns seconded acceptance of Construction Services of PA’s quote contingent on receiving an easement from the American Legion; the motion carried unanimously. Borough Manager Cindy Wells said the Renaissance Grant fund contains $90,547.35; seven applications totaling $60,606 in project costs requested $23,600 in grant support, and Councilor Steadman moved and Councilor Osborn seconded approval of the recommended grants. A separate motion accepting the Erie Area Council of Governments audit report was also passed by resolution.
All motions recorded on the agenda carried unanimously. Department liaisons reported nothing further, and the meeting adjourned at 6:19 P.M.
