Union City approves subdivision, property purchase, boat-launch easement, pension MMO and meeting schedule changes

Union City Borough Council unanimously approved several administrative, land-use and funding items during its Aug. 13 meeting.
Council approved a subdivision moving a portion of 92 West High Street to combine with 88 and 90 West High Street; Erie County Planning had already approved the survey maps and council signed the local approval (mover: Councilor Osborn; second: Councilor Kerns).
Council gave retroactive approval to purchase a small parcel adjoining Municipal Lot #3 (northwest corner) for $500 to support a planned gazebo project; the parcel will be surveyed and the Solicitor will complete purchase documentation (motion by Councilor Joyce; second by Councilor Kerns).
The Solicitor reported he is drafting an easement with the American Legion for installation and maintenance of a kayak/canoe launch at the ball field on French Creek. Funding for the launch will come from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the Pennsylvania Environmental Council; council approved the easement motion (mover: Councilor Osborn; second: Councilor Joyce) and recorded unanimous approval.
On pensions, the borough received the 2025 minimum municipal obligation figures and approved the 2024 MMO: $48,029 required for the nonuniform pension and $0 required for the police pension (motion by Councilor Joyce; second by Councilor Kerns). Council also agreed to change its meeting schedule to the first and third Monday at 6:30 p.m. from September through April; the next meetings were set for Aug. 27, 2024 and Sept. 16, 2024 (due to Labor Day).
