Organizers report strong sponsor and aircraft commitments for Thunder Over East Texas

Organizers of the Thunder Over East Texas airshow told the Airport Advisory Board on June 15 that planning is on track and sponsor support is strong.
Kevin Lilly, director of the Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation, said 28 sponsors or individual donors have contributed to this year’s event, naming the Cain Foundation, the City of Athens, the Athens Economic Development Corporation and First State Bank among the major backers. Lilly said First State Bank is sponsoring roughly $5,000 and that Lilly Enterprises has provided larger donations. The show date is July 3, with lake activities slated for July 4.
Lilly said 22 of 23 aircraft have committed to appear. He outlined parking and shuttle plans and said local broadcasters KETK and CBS 19 are running advertisements. Organizers also reported billboard and video-board advertising beyond Henderson County.
The board listed the airshow results as a future agenda follow-up item to receive a post-event report. No permits, expenditures or council actions were recorded in these minutes.
