At the Nov. 17 meeting the Fulshear Development Corporation heard reports on retail recruitment, conference takeaways and planned changes to Fast Track programming.
Staff said a quarterly retail strategies report will be available soon and reported ongoing contact with brokers and property owners about restaurants and retail prospects; staff asked the board to help identify potential franchise owners and said typical franchise investments the staff is targeting are in the $1,000,000–$3,000,000 range. "We're just looking for franchisees," staff said, asking board members to share leads.
Board members who attended the Texas Downtown Conference (TDC) and the Texas Municipal League meetings described takeaway themes: a Texas deputy comptroller presentation highlighted regional economic reports and the difficulty of identifying home‑based businesses and their revenues; visual data such as heat maps and dollar-per-square-foot analysis were cited as useful for council discussions and recruitment efforts. Andrew (board member) said the visualization tools "help people to understand" and that such data could help identify firms that might scale up and need local office or commercial space.
Staff also reported that the Fulshear Fast Track program will transition to staff leadership starting Jan. 1, with Hayden and staff taking on programming and outreach; staff invited volunteers from the board and community to support the initiative.
Next steps include delivery of the quarterly retail report, continued outreach to brokers and potential franchisees, and staff-led planning for Fast Track programming in January.
