McIntosh leaders agree to rewrite Vision Plan with measurable targets and shared responsibilities

Town Manager Jessica Gonzalez opened the April 22 workshop by framing an update to the Town of McIntosh's Vision Plan as a prioritization exercise aimed at turning broad goals into accountable work. Gonzalez read the town's existing vision statement aloud: "The Town of McIntosh strives to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors by preserving our historic character, protecting natural resources, improving essential services, and fostering an engaged and sustainable community."
Resident Jonathan Ward urged a formal Vision-Strategy-Execution approach, saying the town should replace loosely defined goals with clear objectives, assigned responsibility, timelines and success metrics. Ward argued the current draft places too much responsibility on the Town Manager and recommended distributing duties among council members and community volunteers.
Gonzalez said she supported changes that would move the plan away from a paragraph-only format toward one that includes timelines, explicit roles, checklists and real-time updates so progress can be measured and adjusted. Council members and attendees accepted initial assignments and emphasized a living document that can be updated as tasks are completed.
Councilors and residents recommended public performance tracking. Ward and others proposed posting progress dashboards online showing percent complete, deadlines and who is responsible, and providing regular updates at council meetings. The council set refining the Vision Plan as the next step; Gonzalez and councilors will return with a revised draft and task assignments at upcoming meetings.
