Plain Dealing aldermen approve AC contract, reappoint fire-district commissioners and OK cooperative debris agreement

The Plain Dealing Board of Aldermen took several administrative and procurement actions during its July 14 regular meeting, voting unanimously on measures including appointments, a vendor selection for town-hall air conditioning and authorization of an intergovernmental agreement for tornado debris removal.
Appointments and boards: The board reappointed Cindy Dodson and Lenora Green-Myers as commissioners of Bossier Parish Fire Protection District No. 7; the appointments are scheduled to begin Aug. 1, 2026. The motion to reappoint was made by Emily Jennings and seconded by Shanithia Gay and carried with the members present voting in favor.
Facilities and procurement: The board opened four bids for replacement of the town-hall air conditioner — Ice Cold A/C & Heating $10,800; Phillip Hartzo $9,900; Arkla Air LLC $9,080; and RBR Heating and Cooling $8,500 — and voted to award the contract to RBR Heating and Cooling after a motion by Jeff Benson and seconded by Emily Jennings.
Intergovernmental agreement: The aldermen authorized Mayor James Cook to execute a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with Bossier Parish for tornado debris removal (Resolution No. 12 of 2026). Jeff Benson made the motion and Emily Jennings seconded it; members voted in favor.
Vehicle sale tabled: Two bids for a 2007 Ford Expedition — $500 from Berrance Johnson and $1,000 from Marcel Manning — fell below the vehicle’s minimum value. Jeff Benson moved to table consideration of the sale until the August town meeting; Emily Jennings seconded and the motion carried.
Administrative items: The board selected the Bossier Tribune as the town’s official journal for the July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027 period, and approved two community-center rental applications (Audrey Player on July 11 for a repast and Jordan Guillory on Aug. 29 for a baby shower).
Public-safety and funding notes: In his report, the chief of police said the department logged 226 calls in April 2026, including 73 traffic stops and 153 criminal or civil calls, and warned residents to “drink plenty of water and other hydrating fluid, try not to get overheated and stay in the shade as much as possible,” urging anyone who suspects a heat injury to call 911. Mayor James Cook told the board the town will receive $100,000 in legislative funding: Representative Wayne McMahan secured $25,000 and Senator Adam Bass secured $75,000 for Plain Dealing.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m. on a motion by Shanithia Gay, seconded by Louis Welch; all members voted in favor.
