Judy Wilson, director of the Orleans Council on Aging and Senior Center, said the center served 1,260 Orleans residents in 2025 and described the center’s mix of services: respite/supportive day care, transportation, daily lunches, fitness classes, education and outreach to vulnerable older adults.
Wilson said the COA and the Friends of the Orleans Senior Center secured a $20,000 grant to implement a caregiver support initiative that includes free monthly respite services, caregiver support programming and food cards. She added that the supportive day‑care program generated $210,000 that was turned over to the town’s general fund; other program revenues are retained for program support.
Wilson noted many programs are at or near capacity with waitlists for 80–85% of offerings and said the COA is exploring an online registration system and a lottery approach to ensure equitable access while preserving digital equity for older adults who do not use computers.
She asked for public input on an upcoming community needs assessment and strategic planning process for the COA.
