Town Manager John B. Edwards Jr. presented the town’s proposed FY2026 budget to the West Point Town Council on March 25 and said the presentation was uploaded to the town website. Edwards described the proposal as balanced and said it accommodates the School Board’s request for a $295,882 increase from the previous year. The budget package recommends raising tax rates: Personal Property to $3.49 per $100, Machinery and Tools to $2.37 per $100, and Real Estate to $0.56 per $100.
Edwards said he will forgo a pay increase this year and noted the library operates in a town-owned building while King William County funds its operations. The budget also includes a recommended $20,000 increase for dispatch services with King William County. Council voted to authorize advertising a public hearing on the FY2026 budget for 6:30 p.m. April 22, 2025, and a separate public hearing on the tax rates for 6:30 p.m. April 29, 2025.
No tax rates were adopted at the March meeting; the hearings will allow public comment before council takes final votes.
