West Point council to consider sidewalk tables for The Blue Crab; adjacent owner must apply

The West Point Town Council discussed a request to place sidewalk seating outside The Blue Crab during its March 25 work session. Assistant Town Manager Steve Hudgins said the restaurant asked to keep four tables overall but would locate one table in front of the adjoining property at 618 Main Street, owned by Ms. Carter, leaving three tables directly in front of The Blue Crab. Hudgins told council the town has a request on file for the three tables; Ms. Carter must submit a separate application for the fourth table at 618 Main Street.
Council member Johnny Nein asked, “does The Blue Crab want to move forward with the three tables?” Hudgins said staff prefers to bring both requests together so the council can address them at once. If Ms. Carter files the adjacent-property request before the regular council meeting, staff will include both applications in the agenda packet; otherwise staff will proceed with the request for the three tables currently on file.
The council took no final action at the work session; staff will proceed according to whether Ms. Carter submits a request before the April meeting.
