Resident urges action on SPLOST-funded animal shelter; council says project not yet out to bid

A resident told Warner Robins city council July 1 that animal-control staff are facing a crisis and asked for an update on a SPLOST-funded animal shelter.
Robin Wood, who said she lives at 104 Quail Ridge Lane, told the council she had asked the county commission last year about a new animal shelter and was told Warner Robins council was responsible. "Since January, there have been 1,100 euthanasias in the animals in Warner Robins," Wood said, and she asked whether anything had been done and whether the city could act now rather than waiting for a shelter years away.
Mayor Patrick responded that the animal-shelter project is listed in SPLOST 24 and that the city has not yet issued bids. "We will reach out to Miss Wood about that, and the progress, as we have not went out to bid on that, and it is a SPLOST 24 project," the mayor said. He added that SPLOST funds are collected monthly over a multi-year schedule and that the council will provide updates to concerned residents.
Wood asked the council to consider interim steps to help animal control employees and animals waiting for a new facility; the record includes no staff schedule or procurement action on the shelter at the July 1 meeting.
The mayor said the city will follow up with Wood and provide contact information for further communication.
