During a presentation before the vote, a WVU Extension nutrition outreach instructor described program elements that would be offered under the MOU, including "Rethink Your Drink" education, a "Harvest of the Month" feature and a Teen Cuisine class that teaches cooking, budgeting and food safety. She said the program follows USDA guidelines and that data collection would be anonymized: "No names are collected," she said, describing numbered, multiple‑choice pre‑ and post‑survey forms used for evaluation. The instructor also said the program brings its own funding and only needs school space and permission to collect de‑identified classroom data.
The board moved and seconded approval of the personnel agenda (motion recorded as by Miss Spiegler, second by Miss Robinette) and approved finance items after staff explained an accounting discrepancy: finance staff said the condensed invoice total is produced by the district accounting system (Weebas) after line items are keyed and that a manual keying or transposition likely caused the mismatch; staff committed to identify and fix the error before the next condensed printout.
The board took items 2 through 26 together (which included student trip requests and sports schedules) after a member confirmed chaperone ratios. Motion to approve those grouped items carried. The board also gave final approval to a revised virtual education policy (policy item 27).
Superintendent updates included notice of a Jan. 6 meeting to present revised attendance‑policy language for public comment, a state audit of the basic adult education program, and an operational note that the district is recruiting substitute bus drivers and asking schools to schedule games later in the day because the district has about five substitute drivers available. The meeting adjourned following the updates.
