Riverview presenter reports multi‑year gains in ELA but persistent math gaps and declining enrollment funding impact

The presenter said the school partially or fully met several ELA and graduation targets for 2023–24 and highlighted a two‑year improvement in attendance from a 63 percent chronic absentee rate to 49 percent. For the current year, daily attendance was reported at 88.1 percent and a chronic absentee rate cited at 42.64 percent with 173 students labeled chronically absent using the 50‑day/5+ absence metric.
However, the presenter said math remains the largest challenge. An analysis of PSAT practice results found only 4 of 59 sampled students on grade level and 45 students roughly three grade levels behind in math. Riverview has established tutoring and testing‑support groups, peer observations among math teachers and is pursuing curriculum and grading changes—including a move toward standards‑based grading in math—to improve alignment with standardized assessments.
The presenter also described post‑secondary and career technical education participation (83 students enrolled in CTC and 34 taking dual credit this year) and said staff will continue targeted programming and supports. Board members asked clarifying questions about attendance outreach and homebound education; no formal board vote followed the presentation.
