Miss Lacey, speaking on behalf of county and state education employees, asked the McDowell County Board of Education to place a resolution on a future agenda urging state leaders to stabilize the Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA).
"PEIA provides vital health care benefits to public employees in West Virginia, including teachers, school staff, and administrators," Miss Lacey read, urging the board to support a sustainable, affordable and equitable PEIA and to send copies of the resolution to the governor and legislative leaders.
Lacey said recent financial instability at PEIA has increased costs for public employees and threatened benefits, and she asked the board to consider the resolution at a future meeting even though she acknowledged no formal action could be taken that night.
Board members thanked Lacey for her presentation and acknowledged they would add the request to a future agenda. The board did not take formal action on the resolution at this meeting.
