At its Sept. 20 meeting the Coquille School District 8 board approved several routine but formal actions, including certification of standards, personnel actions and declaring a bus surplus.
Trustee Steve Britton moved to approve Discussion/Action items 8.1 through 8.4. The board certified compliance with Division 22 standards (item 8.1), approved a leave request from Elle Cook to teach abroad in Spain during the 2024–25 school year (8.2), acknowledged Title III guidance on English learners (8.3), and declared Bus #35 surplus (8.4). Marsha Frost seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
The consent agenda, approved by motion of Julie Nighswonger and seconded by Heather Echavarria, included the hiring of multiple staff across the district: Sonny Sandberg (Tech Assistant, district), Steve Strouts (Custodian, CHS), Rebecca Sproul (Secretary, CHS), Lyn Van Dusen (EA, LSEL), Martha Kemple (Teacher, SPED, WLE), Casey Clapper (Teacher, WLE), Claire Mullanix (Secretary, Food Services), Shandi Rogers (Bus Driver, district), Chelsea Jorgensen (Secretary, District Office), and Brianna Strouts (EA-ALS, CHS). The board accepted resignations from Joel Nista (Custodian, LSEL) and Elizabeth Gallagher (Teacher, WLHS).
Fiscal Director Rachel Amos noted that September financials are preliminary until payroll is encumbered and reminded the board that the district audit begins in two weeks. The meeting record shows all motions passed unanimously; one trustee (Lucas Taylor) was absent from the vote roster.
The board adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
