Santaquin staff: permits on pace; planning commission schedules hearings on ADUs, fuel tanks and cafe alcohol license

City planning staff told the Santaquin City Council that permit activity is on pace with last year and that the community will see multiple planning items come before the Development Review Committee and Planning Commission.

"Mayor and council, calendar year, we're up to 166 residential dwelling units," Jason, a staff member, said when presenting the building-permit report. He noted fiscal-year totals are on pace with the previous year and that the packet showed breakdowns for single-family versus multifamily and commercial spaces.

Jason said the Development Review Committee will review the Bella Vista development final plots and a traffic-control request near Apple Valley Elementary School. He also said the Planning Commission will hold three public hearings on ordinance amendments: allowing detached accessory dwelling units (ADUs) where zoning permits single-family housing, clarifying rules for residential fuel tanks in coordination with the fire code, and a conditional-use public hearing for an alcohol license application from Wild Thistle Cafe.

Council members asked for clarification about coordination with other departments; Jason said community-development staff worked with the fire chief on fuel-tank language and that some alcohol-license categories are conditional uses that run through the Planning Commission's conditional-use process.

Jason also reminded the council that Orchard Days and related events are upcoming and that staff will coordinate logistics for the mayor and council.
