The Eastport Digital Equity Committee on June 29, 2026 reviewed a recent laptop donation, confirmed matching sponsorship funds and set annual programming goals.
Chair Elaine Abbott and Steve Ropiak of giveIT.getIT reported that the organization presented laptops to 10 seniors at the Shead’s Awards Ceremony on June 4 and that giveIT.getIT matched the committee’s sponsorship funds of $2,000. The committee also received a thank-you letter from one recipient that was shared with giveIT.getIT.
The panel set a planning target of two community workshops per year in addition to continuing the senior laptop program, while noting the goal is flexible because of limited volunteer capacity. Committee member Rachel Williams and member Joshua Nicholson were recorded as present for the discussion.
Members discussed expanding the workshop slate to include additional sessions about artificial intelligence. Proposed subjects included a business-oriented presentation addressing security measures and a session explaining what happens "behind the scenes" when a user enters a prompt into an AI tool. As follow-up, Chair Elaine Abbott will contact SCEC to ask whether the SCEC Tech Director is available to participate; Rachel Williams will survey community event calendars to identify blackout dates and will check the Chamber meeting calendar to seek alignment with regular meetings.
There were no formal votes recorded during the meeting. The committee agreed to resume the discussion at its next meeting, scheduled for July 13, 2026. The meeting was adjourned at 11:52 AM and minutes were signed by Chair Elaine Abbott.
