Select Board members reported that several transportation grant applications submitted to VTrans have been recommended for approval, including paving on Foster Hill Road and design work for culvert projects on Church Street and Bailey Bridge Road. The board also noted a $20,000 Better Roads award for Valley Lake Road to be used for culvert and ditching work.
On watershed work, the board said it submitted a BRIC (Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities) application for a Buck Lake Brook Watershed study. A board presenter estimated USDA participation of roughly $115,000 with a town match of about $35,000 for an approximate total project value near $150,000; board members said design work and bank stabilization would be part of the project and that some work would not occur until fiscal year 2028. FEMA additionally requires short resumes for the listed project personnel as part of the application process.
Town Treasurer Lily Baron reviewed April financials: "The general fund currently operating at a budget deficit, negative $66,058," she told the board, while the highway fund remained in surplus by about $143,912 and total cash on hand was $922,457. Baron said the town was expecting a reconciliation payment from the school district in the order of $40,000 that would improve the town's cash position before the fiscal year ends.
Board members discussed potential matches, contractor involvement for bank stabilization (if property owners do not want town crews doing work), and scheduling so grant‑funded work aligns with other road maintenance.
