Midland School Board approves May financials, accepts resignation and hires multiple staff

The Midland School District Board of Directors approved several personnel actions and financial items during its Monday, June 15 meeting at Midland High School.
Board members voted 7-0 to approve the May 2026 financial statements after a motion by board member Austin Passmore and a second from John McFarland. Earlier in the meeting, the board approved the minutes from the May 18 meeting on a motion by Bani' Meharg, seconded by Joe Cox; that motion carried 5-0 with Austin Passmore and John McFarland recorded as abstentions because they were absent from the May 18 meeting.
The board accepted the resignation of Kathy Doss effective at the end of the 2025–26 school year. John McFarland moved to accept the resignation and Bani' Meharg seconded; the motion was adopted 7-0.
On hiring, the board approved a slate of recommendations: Joe Cox moved and Janet Canard seconded hiring Patrick Trusty as the head girls basketball coach for 2026–27. The motion passed 7-0. The coach will be placed on year 13 of the bachelor’s salary schedule and will receive coaching stipends of $3,000 (senior team), $2,000 (junior team) and $500 (7th grade) for a total first-year compensation of $55,500; the coach’s classroom assignment will depend on required licensure.
Also approved were the hires of Kayla Burkett as an instructional paraprofessional (salary $16,910 on a 180-day contract) and Ashley Baker as a 1:1 special education paraprofessional (salary $17,501.80 on a 180-day contract). Both motions were adopted 7-0. The board additionally approved hiring Linda Allgood at a daily rate for five days per month for the 2026–27 school year; the daily rate was not specified in the minutes. Those motions were made and seconded as noted in the official minutes and adopted by recorded votes of 7-0.
The meeting adjourned at 9:14 PM on a motion from Bani' Meharg, seconded by Joe Cox, adopted 7-0. The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 2026 in the Midland School District board room.
