Pickens County presents quarterly finance snapshot as budget planning starts

Pickens County Director Miranda McDowell presented the county's quarterly finance report and said the county is beginning budget planning for fiscal year 2027.
McDowell read revenue and expenditure highlights including taxes at $5,735,460 (listed as 18% of budget to date), licenses and permits $343,003 (44%), intergovernmental revenues $1,375,070 (36%), charges for services $2,000,740 (59%), fines $92,986 (40%), contributions and donations $51,279 (130%), and interest income $11,997 (48%). She also provided an overview of general fund and departmental expenditure percentages and enterprise fund figures for water and airport.
McDowell told the board the tax assessor's office had mailed assessment notices and that the 45-day appeal period is in progress; once the appeal period and digest are complete staff will bring millage-setting numbers to the board. She said department directors and elected officials have submitted budget requests and staff will work to consolidate requests for board consideration.
The board moved to approve the finance report by motion and voice vote.
