Commissioners accept accountability court grants and approve opioid-abatement subcontractors

The Pickens County Board of Commissioners accepted multiple state grants to fund local accountability court programs for the coming fiscal period and approved subcontractors for opioid-abatement-funded programs.
By motion and voice vote the board authorized acceptance of five grants supporting local accountability courts: drug court ($581,385), family treatment court ($277,569), mental health court ($489,281), veterans court ($197,436.63) and juvenile drug court ($43,155). County staff said these awards permit the programs to continue operations and require board approval for inclusion in finance records.
The board also approved three subcontractors under the Georgia Opioid Crisis Abatement Trust: East LJ Family and Cosmetic Dentistry to provide dental screening, assessment and treatment for program participants; Good Samaritan to provide screening and administration of medications linked to treatment of alcohol and opioid addiction; and Ginger King, an individual contractor, to deliver one-on-one therapy and evidence-based curriculum to accountability court participants. Commissioners said the approvals were needed to meet grant timelines.
All items were approved by voice vote with no opposition recorded.
