Township wins $1 million grant for Valley Forge trail; Walker Park courts cleared to proceed

The Community Center Complex Advisory Board heard several Parks & Recreation and township project updates at its March 17 meeting. Greg Waks, the board’s Board of Supervisors liaison, said the township received a $1 million grant to construct a portion of the Valley Forge Gateway Trail and reminded members that a BOCC grant deadline is March 30.
Waks also reported that the Conservation District granted approval to proceed with tennis and pickleball courts at Walker Park. Paul Salamy, the Parks & Recreation liaison, clarified that the Walker Park courts will be constructed without painted lines and without lighting, and that Heuser II drew five bids from qualified companies; interviews for Heuser II bidders will occur in April and a recommendation will go to the Board of Commissioners.
Parks & Recreation reported 2,509 total members, 423 weekday visits and 235 weekend visits. Summer camps are open with some already full; the Summer Guide is scheduled for release in May. Additional items: swimming lessons at the high school are filled, the Free Passholder program application was posted and six families enrolled, Public Works and the Shade Tree Commission are adding bird houses to parks, and event reminders include an Earth Day Festival on April 18, a Recycling event on April 19, Senior Games pickleball on May 4, and a Hometown Heroes Banner ceremony on May 20.
No formal zoning or budget vote related to these projects was recorded in the minutes; Heuser II procurement and Walker Park facility work were described as moving toward further review and recommendations to the Board of Commissioners.
