Riverton USD 404 board approves KASB policy updates, athletic apparel deal and facilities agreement; hires custodian

The Riverton Unified School District No. 404 Board of Education met Dec. 11 at the Riverton Board of Education Office and approved a series of policy and vendor agreements, hired custodial staff and heard principalsreports on upcoming student events and district accreditation work.
Board President Cyle Haywood called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and the board approved the consent agenda, which included minutes from Nov. 13 and Nov. 21 and November expenses totaling $310,620.15. The motion to approve the consent agenda, moved by Judy Adams and seconded by Matt Darnaby, carried unanimously.
Elementary Principal Adam Thomasson reported on holiday events and logistics: fourth- and fifth-grade students will attend a PSU basketball game Dec. 16, D.A.R.E. graduation is scheduled for Dec. 16, Pre-K through first grade will visit Santa on Dec. 16, and the elementary Christmas program is set for Dec. 18. Thomasson also provided an update on the district's KESA work, describing "classroom cruises" being used as part of the accreditation process. Middle School Principal Zach Martin described a teacher-clarity component of the KESA work, and High School Principal Chad Harper summarized recent activities and described MTSS programs at the high school.
Superintendent Kevin Cooper reviewed the KASB policy updates prepared for December 2025 and, together with High School Athletic Director Dylan Weaver, presented a proposed five-year BSN Sports and Under Armour agreement and a revised Facilities Usage Agreement for board consideration. The board approved the recommended KASB policy updates as presented with the exception of policy IIBE (motion by Matt Darnaby, seconded by Judy Adams), and approved the five-year BSN Sports/Under Armour agreement (motion by Judy Adams, seconded by Keeley Adams) and the revised Facilities Usage Agreement (motion by Keeley Adams, seconded by Gary Neal). All motions were carried unanimously.
The board entered executive session twice under the non-elected personnel exception of KOMA and for preliminary real estate discussion to protect the district's financial interest and bargaining position. Minutes record that the board "retained Kevin Cooper." After returning to open session at 7:45 p.m., the board approved the hire of Roger Lewis to fill a custodial vacancy (motion by Matt Darnaby, seconded by Judy Adams), carried unanimously.
The board presented outgoing member Gary Neal with a plaque recognizing his eight years of service. Judy Adams moved to adjourn at 7:53 p.m.; the motion carried unanimously. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in the Board of Education Office.
