The Ste. Genevieve Co. R-II Board of Education scheduled its 2026 school tax-rate hearing for Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m., approved the consent agenda and received extended reports on communications, digital-accessibility planning and facilities work at its July meeting.
Board leadership announced the tax-rate hearing date and said the hearing was moved one week later than usual to give staff extra time to gather information from the county assessor. The board also confirmed the first day of school for the 2026–27 year will be Aug. 24 and reviewed a series of open-house dates for buildings across the district.
During a lengthy communications presentation, Lisa (the district communications lead addressed by the board) described internal and external communications tools the district uses, from the weekly superintendent newsletter and a mailed Dragon's Digest to an app that pushes texts and notifications to staff and families. "I try to be as proactive with communications as possible," Lisa told the board, outlining plans for a website audit and an editorial calendar intended to streamline announcements and reduce confusion.
The communications segment also included a reminder about digital-accessibility obligations under ADA Title II. The presenter said the compliance timeline has been extended by roughly a year and a half but stressed that districts must prepare alt text and accessible PDFs; districts with populations above 50,000 have an earlier deadline.
The board reviewed facility plans that would renovate the current wrestling room and reconfigure the existing weight room into a multipurpose/aerobic space. The phased approach described would outfit a new weight room with equipment and turf before dismantling the current room to avoid a lapse in student access, and the presenter outlined cleaning and equipment-move steps that must precede construction.
At the delegate assembly portion of the board report, Keisha Lee of the Ledoux School District was sworn in as the 2026–27 president of the Missouri School Boards Association and emphasized accountability and service to students. "This is not a title. It is a sacred trust," Lee said.
Procedurally, the board made and affirmed routine motions. The consent agenda was moved and recorded as "1st by Josh, 2nd by Phil," and the meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn and follow-up confirmations from board members.
The district also announced that any personnel changes approved during closed session will be noted in the draft meeting minutes within 70 hours of adjournment.
